Our vision is the creation of a network of social outdoor spaces, with a strong connection to the natural world, inspired by the Swedish Concept of Friluftsliv or ‘Free Air Life’. The proposal seeks to create an urban oasis within the context of Old Market, which fosters a sense of belonging through a common connection to nature, creating a diverse and inclusive community.
The scheme consists of a children’s play space, set within a courtyard, and accompanied by small allotments and wildflower beds. This draws upon the concept of local ‘forest schools’ that encourage learning and play through the exploration of the natural world.
