Redevelopment of equestrian facility to create new family homes
Architecture | News
Planning permission has been granted for the transformation of under-utilised equestrian buildings into five high-quality family homes, including the extension and development of new equestrian facilities, near Motcombe, in Dorset – following support by planning and design experts at Marrons in liaison with officers at Dorset Council.
An under-used one-storey stable will be redeveloped into three, three-bedroomed houses, a redundant function building will be converted into a three-bedroom property, and a two-storey stallion block will be adapted into a four-bedroom home.
To make space for the properties, the facilities at Half Moon Stud will be modernised with a new stable block.
Owner Julie Deverill said: “A big thanks has to go to the team at Marrons for their enthusiasm, rapid response to any queries I had, and ensuring planning permission was granted efficiently.”
As part of the approved plans, Half Moon Stud will be located exclusively to the north of the site, separated from the new dwellings through a considered site layout and landscape strategy. An existing hay barn will be demolished and a replacement building will be constructed closer to the indoor riding school.
Solar panels will be installed on the roof of the existing indoor riding school – which will also be extended and modernised – to provide renewable energy for the business, while an existing agricultural storage building will also be upgraded.
Alex Craggs, architect and associate director at Marrons, who led the design proposals, said: “We are thrilled that planning permission has been granted for the redevelopment of Half Moon Stud.
“The five new dwellings will make efficient use of existing and under-utilised buildings within the countryside, and the refurbishment and rationalisation of the existing equestrian facilities have created a superb opportunity for a future occupier.”
