John is a chartered town planner with a distinctive background, having transitioned into planning in 2022 after more than 15 years as a local newspaper reporter.
John’s journalism experience gives him a strong understanding of local communities, democratic processes, and the importance of clear, informed communication in planning.
Before joining Marrons, John worked in development management at a rural Worcestershire local authority, where he gained hands-on experience in rural and agricultural planning, as well as in managing certificates of lawful use.
Now, working across both development management and strategic land promotion, John supports clients with a practical and informed approach. His recent work includes preparing grey belt development proposals and managing planning appeals. His background in local authority gives him valuable insight into the planning process, especially around permitted development rights and lawful development matters.
As a member of the RTPI, he is active in the West Midlands planning network and maintaining historic buildings.
